Day 15: India - Ahmedabad/Delhi/Lahore
Our day started out suuuuuper early to catch a 6am flight from Ahmedabad to Delhi on our way to Lahore. Up until the last minute, Shehrzad and I were in complete denial that we had a 9-hour layover in Delhi before our flight to Lahore. We had our bags with us and felt like it would be more of a pain than anything else to find someplace to stash our bags (not to mention the fact that we were convinced we would never see our bags again if we let them out of our sight), so we decided to rough it at the Delhi airport.
What we were hoping for:
Looks nice enough, no?
What we actually got:
Ugh! (And no, that's not me on the left picking my teeth!)
It was our first time traveling in India without my dad's coolie clan, but we actually did a pretty decent job on our own. We got good training. :) The wait at the airport sucked! I was a little sick, so feeling hesitant about eating anything from the airport. Lunch was a biscotti. Did some Sudoku puzzles, bugged Shehrzad "is it time yet?", "how much longer?", listened to my iPod, bugged Shehrzad some more "how about now?", tried to sleep (but I was so paranoid about our bags and I'm not good at sleeping with one eye open, so that didn't happen much), and somehow passed the 9 hours. The flight to Lahore was uneventful (although I freaked out a bit because my bag was practically the last one out at baggage claim!). Jamsheed, Shehrzad's cousin from his father's side, came to meet us at the airport and when we walked out of the airport to where all the people wait for the passengers, we were really worried because we had no idea who to look for. So we walked reeeeeeallllllyyyy slllllloooooowlllllly up the walkway, and thank goodness, Jamsheed was told to look for "a man and a woman who look confused" so it wasn't hard for him to find us!! :) Jamsheed is one cool cat. So friendly and talkative and the three of us became instant friends. Went back to his house, met his mom and sister Sadaf, and had the best koftas and chicken EVER. Mmmm, meat. :) Over dinner, we decided to be touristy the next day, so the next installment on this blog will be all about Lahore Fort, Bahdshai Mosque, and driving around Lahore. Stay tuned...
Daily Dose of Lubna: Got a busy busy weekend up ahead! Dinner tonight, volunteering tomorrow morning, lunch in SF, babysitting in the evening, and everything else on Sunday! :)
